hot pot

Today after school, my mother and I decided to have hotpot for lunch at a place we walked past the other day. What attracted us what their weekday lunch deal which is less that 10£ per person.

They had two options, just meat, or for more you get meat and seafood. We opted for just meat and ordered an extra plate of buffalo tongue (which costed like half of the hotpot per person price…).

As you can see, it was personal hotpot which is a super good idea as invididuals can come in and eat. The seats were also bar like so we were all facing in on bar stools. The advantage with a personal pot is that you can flavor it however you want. The basic price we paid actually included a lot more than we thought. There was a sauce station that also had some kind of mango smoothie dessert, red tea and starfruit tea, ice creams, and mango soft serve.

The hotpot set included a large variety of food.

  • choice of meat (pork, chicken, beef, lamb ; some had different cuts too)
  • cabbage
  • lettuce
  • different kind of fish balls
  • different types of mushrooms
  • fake crab stick
  • corn
  • block of egg
  • pumpkin
  • tofu
  • carb of your choice (different type of noodles, rice)

Overall, the variety for the price is awesome, and you even get drinks and dessert included! The main hotpot ingredients and extra plate we ordered were pretty good 8/10. The sauce options were more than enough. They offered peanut powder which I haven’t had with hotpot before, but dipping the cooked meat into it was delicious. The drink options were 50/50. I first got the starfruit one but it tasted more like salty plum… The red tea was good though. The mango smoothie dessert is a solid 2/10. It tastes like fake artificial mango, which is strange considering how cheap and available fresh are, but I guess it was a cheaper option. It did have pearl sago/mini clear tapioca pearls and coconut jelly in it though. If only the actual taste was better…. The ice creams were great. Four flavors, peanut, mint choc, vanilla, and strawberry. As much as I love mint chocolate ice cream, I got the peanut one. It was probably more on the cheaper end of ice cream, but it was still very fragrant, rich in flavor, and not a watery ice cream. The mango soft serve was also quite good. Tasted like actual mangos.

After, we stopped by another temple as it was on our way back.

Very pretty and beautifully made.

Also grabbed some wax apples
