Another slow and uneventful day. I decided to stop at 7-Eleven on the way back to grab some snacks. In Taiwan, 7-Eleven is one of the convenience stores at every corner. Like the other ones, you can do many other things other than buy food and snacks. You can buy train tickets, top-up phones and YoYo cards, there’s often wifi, send and recieve packages, and sit inside to eat a hot meal.
I picked some I know but haven’t had in a while, and some that I haven’t seen before.
dried noodles
This first one is one I remember having as a kid. It is one of the dried noodle snacks. I got the spicy one and although it wasn’t spicy, it tasted just how I remembered. Nostalgic 7.5/10
cookie
I love cream puffs so thought I’d try this out. The cookie outside is definitely like a thicker cooked longer cream puff type of dough. The inside is nothing like cream, it’s more like white chocolate. Not a fan of white chocolate and it was mostly hollow. 4.5/10
A relative did show me a small trick of freezing them. I prefer my cream puffs frozen as I think they are more like ice cream, and with these, they were definitely better. So I rate these frozen higher. 5.5/10
chocolates
I had never had these before nor could I read anything it said.
The top one was the cheapest and looked to have bits of something in it. I was hoping for nuts but it was cookie bits. The chocolate wasn’t really chocolatey or cocoay at all… Still unsure of what that was. 3.5/10
The other one I tried was even less chocolate bar like than the first. It had nuts on the packaging but the pieces were tiny. It also tasted more like it was made from dates and had the grainy texture of a protein bar. 3/10
candy
I remember having these as a kid, but I only remember the grape flavor. In true convenience store fashion, it was buy 2 get 1. So I also got peach and yogurt. The texture is super similar to a starburst but not at sticky and doesn’t disappear as quickly.
Peach was more like artificial peach. Very similar to those gummy peach rings. 6/10
For the yogurt I was expecting more of the yogurt drink type of yogurt flavor. Sweeter and lighter taste. Which is exactly spot on. One thing I would change is to make the flavor a little stronger. 6/10
Grape is a classic flavor. Smelt and tasted just like I remember. It was more of that articifial grape flavor, but the good one. 6/10
